Annual Grants Programme 2017/18

The Parish Council operates a modest annual grants programme to assist local organisations who aim to positively contribute to parish life and the wellbeing of the local community. The purpose of the grants programme is to support initiatives in the local community and to help create opportunities for the residents of the Parish.

To be considered for a grant your organisation will need to complete an application form (available from the Parish Clerk at the Community Resource Centre) and submit it prior to the deadline of  25 January 2017.

Does work make you happy?

Following on from her hugely successful series on BBC1 ‘Britain’s Spending Secrets’, Anne now wants to explore the world of work by speaking to lots of different people in different careers to try and answer the question ‘Does work make you happy?’. Anne will meet a diverse group individuals with varying careers from nurses to millionaires, bin men to bankers and explore the link between work and happiness/our attitudes to work and happiness.

We are in the early stages of casting and would love to hear from people who might want to take part in the programme and speak to Anne about their career. What is the secret to a happy working life? Is everyone paid what they  are worth? Maybe you know someone who loves their job? Or loathes it? Do you have an interesting, unique or dangerous job?

Making Local Woods Work

Making Local Woods Work is an exciting pilot project working to help support and grow woodland-based social enterprises,

Plunkett wants to work with 50 groups who are looking to undertake new activity that will help them to:

  • bring woodlands into active management
  • increase access to and the range and use of woodlands
  • create jobs and training opportunities
  • begin new activities with the aim of generating trading income
  • help those most in need to access woodlands, and benefit from activities in woodlands.

Deadlines to apply to be a pilot project on this scheme are 25th January and 23rd February 2016

UK Government Satellite Broadband Scheme

The Satellite Broadband Scheme is now live and open for applications. It has been introduced to help those with the slowest speeds access a basic broadband service of at least 2Mbps, and is the technology which has been identified to help those areas indicated on the Superfast Essex interactive map as due for ‘Non-fibre upgrade (minimum 2Mbps) by 2016’. Fibre rollout halfway milestone – 60,000

The main fibre rollout has now reached 60,000 homes and businesses, which means the halfway milestone for the overall fibre rollout programme (120,000 to be reached in Phase 1, 2a and 2b – Rural Challenge Project) has been reached. Environmental and Charity Success

The annual tree shredding took place on the Green on Saturday 9th January. Thank you to everyone who brought their Christmas trees along to be shredded and gave so generously to charity. Forty two trees were shredded. £195 was donated to charity, (a 36% increase on the amount raised last year). The donations were equally divided between Essex Air Ambulance and Brain Tumour UK. A special thanks to John Glover and Brett Scott who gave their time free of charge.

Great Bentley Good Neighbours committee wins Pride of Tendring award 2015

The Great Bentley Good Neighbours Committee has been in existence for nearly 33 years. It has been led by Robert Taylor as its Chairman over this period of time. The Committee small in number but it works efficiently to provide a range of services

These include transport through a telephone contact for villagers who cannot manage on public transport to get to doctors, hospital and clinics, even for emergency shopping and more. All drivers are volunteers.

An annual booklet is publicised containing details of all organisations in the village; it organises a named Road Steward to assist residents in each road should they require help or need local information; provides a selection of medical aids; a pets to vets service for those who cannot manage on their own; local support for and liaison with Neighbourhood Watch.
