Free debt advice from Citizens Advice Tendring
Since April 1st last year, Citizens Advice Tendring have helped 340 clients with 1,186 debt issues. The main issue has been credit card debt, closely followed by council tax arrears. We want to remind people in Tendring that we have a specialist debt adviser in Clacton, funded by the Money Advice Service, who can provide free expert help.
Our specialist debt adviser is Stephen Andrews. He says: “It’s quite common for people in debt to become overwhelmed and find it difficult to cope. Often, their physical and mental health deteriorates, causing their situation to worsen. Consequently, they are even less able to deal with final demand letters, the threat of prosecution or bailiffs on the doorstep. Sadly, they don’t know that free face-to-face help is available to them locally at Citizens Advice. If they come to us, we can offer a range of debt solutions, such as negotiating with creditors or advising on personal insolvency matters, such as Debt Relief Orders or bankruptcy.”
People in the Tendring area who have serious debt problems and would like Stephen’s help should first come to one of our drop-in advice sessions for an initial assessment. They should bring to their interview as much information as possible about their debts and income or benefits.
