The NHS recruited thousands of volunteers at the start of the pandemic and is now keen to find out how those volunteers can be further involved in supporting communities going forward. The attachment includes a request for members of any local voluntary organisation to please participate in the survey, the responses of which will be fed into a report evidencing how the scheme is working locally and recommendations for future planning in terms of COVID-19 and winter 2021.

Here at Age Concern we are dedicated in supporting those in later years. We offer a free befriending service, where we match a volunteer – who has been DBS checked and trained in safeguarding, with a client with similar interests, to befriend them. This would normally be face to face befriending but due to the pandemic we have adapted our services and can offer, telephone, digital or pen friending. The feedback from clients that are in receipt of this has been really positive, they love receiving the call from their befriender, some do quizzes together, some even do exercises together. For those unable to deal with technology and have opted for the letter, are delighted to get that friendly envelope drop on their doormat – it brightens their day and they can read and re read it again and again when they feel a little low.
We also offer emotional support, Bereavement Support from trained councillors and Benefit advice and support .
