Colchester Hospital University Foundation Trust (CHUFT) is proposing to close the Maternity Unit at Harwich. Prior to this it will be undertaking a public engagement exercise. The following information has been received from CHUFT .
Further to your email, I am pleased to respond on behalf of the Trust.
A programme of engagement with the public has commenced in respect of this proposal. Supported by the CCG, and through a range of activities, the Trust is working to ensure that appropriate groups and individuals are spoken with, and given the opportunity to give their feedback. The purpose of the engagement is to ensure that all relevant matters have been taken into consideration before the final decision is made. Given the relatively small number of people who would be affected by the change, and because mothers-to-be would continue to be offered the full range of birth settings, we are not holding a public consultation.
The Trust is holding two public meetings to discuss these proposals. Everyone is welcome to join the meetings, and I would be grateful if you would pass the details on to any interested parties. The meetings will be held at the Electric Palace Cinema, King’s Quay Street, Harwich CO12 3ER, on:
- Wednesday 26th October, 7.00 – 8.00 pm
- Monday 31st October, 9.30 – 10.30am
More information and the opportunity to ask questions and give views is available by visiting the Trust’s web page: bit.ly/harwichmat or Email: [email protected]. You may choose to write to the Chief Executive: Nick Hulme, Trust Offices, Colchester General Hospital, Turner Road, Colchester, Essex CO4 5JL.
Please ensure any feedback is received by 09.00am on Tuesday 15 November.
